The Last Supper!
(note: if you read some other blogs wif a post of the same title, know for a fact that I came out wif the title first!)
We had our final supper together on Monday nite – the Church Camp committee. We had our final meeting on Monday nite and as usual, we adjourned for supper.
I was quite sad that we won’t be having any more meetings or suppers as a committee. By far, this was the most enjoyable camp committee I’ve served wif. We can actually be a TV series! – “The Committee”!!! Yup, we had all the usual characters to make an interesting storyline!!!
As wif all groups, we had the capable leader (eg. Aragorn from LoTR, Captain Miller [Tom Hanks] in “Saving Private Ryan”, etc.). JN was simply excellent as our chairman. He was always down to earth, he was brave (made a lot of decisions which others may not have dared to), he was sensible - never emotional, and he led us well. He had our respect.
Then, we had the wise advisor (eg. Gandalf from LoTR, Obi-Wan in the original trilogy, etc.)! TEH was the “veteran” – he has served in probably all the camp committees. His experience was invaluable. JN even joked that he would not have taken the role as the chairman if TEH was not gonna be part of the team! Besides having the wisdom, TEH oso had a super sense of dry humour – and he never fails to leave us all in stitches wif his dead-pan delivery of excellent one-liners!
Then we had the “specialists” (usually in war movies where we have a bomb expert or a sniper) – members of the team who are there because they are skilled in one area. While they may not be wise or talented, they do have a specific gift which they used to serve God wif.
We oso had an irritating fella – yeah, the one who is not a bad guy (in the same team) but yet always causes internal problems. We had this brother who was quite full of himself – he must have a say in everything, and when his views are not accepted, he’d get angry and bitter – and would even try to start arguments. When things go wrong, he’ll be the first to find fault wif other members. However, he did his job and I guess he taught us all how to bear wif difficult people.
Then of course, there are those who are there for comic relief!!!!
Me? I think I was the “jack-of-all-trades” fella. After all, I joined the comm without a specific port-folio and since I was the one without a permanent full-time job, I’m usually the one who had to do everything else that din really require a specialised skill. I was oso the emotional character who raises “controversial” matters – like during the final review meeting, I raised up the issue of a certain church leader who behaved very unbecomingly (IMHO) during the camp!
We worked hard together, we prayed together, we served hand-in-hand, we had many moments of great fun and laughter, we shared a strong unity. It was indeed a great joy to see all our efforts no in vain when we went thru the survey forms – only 1 person indicated that he/she did not learn much from the camp. The rest all indicated that they had been so blessed.
Truly, all glory to God – for unless the Lord build the house, the builders labour in vain (Psalms 127v1)!
And I’ve been so blessed to be able to serve and to learn from my fellow workers!
